SEMAX
An ACTH(4-10) fragment analog studied for neuroprotection and focus.
A fragment for focus.
Semax is a synthetic analog of a fragment of ACTH, developed in Russia and studied for neuroprotective and cognitive-enhancing effects without the hormonal action of full ACTH.
At a glance
A neurotrophic nudge.
Semax's most consistent research signal is up-regulation of BDNF and NGF - the neurotrophins involved in neuronal growth and protection.
Beyond that it has been studied for neuroprotection in ischaemia models and for effects on attention and monoamine tone. As with Selank, its clinical record sits mainly in Russian medicine; Western validation in healthy populations is thin.
Not all claims are equal.
- BDNF / NGF up-regulation (replicated in models)
- Neuroprotective signals in ischaemia models
- Russian clinical use in stroke recovery
- Attention and cognitive-performance signals
- Dopaminergic / monoamine modulation
- Antioxidant activity in brain tissue
- Western-validated cognitive enhancement
- Long-term safety
- Healthy-population nootropic claims
How it works
Neurotrophins
Raises BDNF and NGF expression in brain models.
ReplicatedNeuroprotection
Protective in ischaemia / oxidative-stress models.
PreclinicalMonoamines
Modulates dopaminergic and serotonergic tone.
MechanisticBBB peptide
Crosses the blood-brain barrier as a small peptide.

Signs of a quality compound
Semax is used clinically in Russia but is investigational and unapproved in most Western markets, where it is supplied as a research compound.
